Time travel. What would you do if you could bend space-time? Patton Oswalt would go back to the nineties, and so would I. (Warning, explicit language)
Unlike Mr. Oswalt, I wouldn’t want to murder anyone. I would simply go back to Jaime Carrillo in 1996, at the height of the Sega vs. Nintendo console war and drop a massive truth bomb in seven-year-old me’s ear: In the future, Sega and Nintendo will be best friends. I’d also strongly advise him not to buy Metroid: Other M. But that’s neither here nor there.
It’s actually quite unbelievable how far Nintendo’s come. Sonic was Sega’s answer to Nintendo’s Mario. And ever since he came on the scene, the two were arch enemies. Now? They’re best friends! They’ve had three Olympic games together (and one in the works), and Sonic even had a spot on the Smash Bros. roster.
Sonic Lost World is the next game in the Sonic series, and to everyone’s surprise the game will be a Nintendo exclusive. It will only be available on Nintendo platforms. Naturally, some aren’t very keen on that. Even if I throwout the entire history Nintendo and Sega had together, I think it’s still quite amazing. The Wii U is being counted out by just about everyone (cough EA). The horizon may look quite dismal for the Wii U, but it won’t be facing those challenges alone: it’s old enemy Sega will be there with it, fighting strong. Italian plumbers and genetically enhanced hedgehogs. White glove clasping white glove: best friends forever.
