Roost Cafe Mocha from Animal Crossing New Leaf
One of my favorite places to visit in town is Brewster’s Roost Cafe. One of his offerings is a Mocha blend. I don’t know if Brewster would like my interpretation of his famous drink, but I hope he would. It’s a little chocolatey, a little sweet, and even a little spicy. Using pigeon milk is entirely optional.
8 grams of espresso ground coffee (Right now I’m on a Starbucks Blonde Roast kick. Run it through your coffee grinder until it’s talcum like in texture)
1/2 tsp grated orange zest
1/2 vanilla bean spilt
1/2 cup whole milk
1 tablespoon dutch process cocoa
Sugar to taste
To make coffee:
1. Place zest and vanilla bean in a small cup. Bring milk up to a boil then pour carefully over your bean and zest. Let it steep for about five minutes. Strain. Keep your vanilla bean! You can use it a few more times.
2. In the cup you’ll be serving your coffee, add your cocoa powder and a about a tablespoon of water. Whisk till combined. If you don’t want your drink chocolatey, omit this step!
3. Make espresso per your machine’s instructions. If you don’t have an espresso machine, add your coffee (don’t grind it too fine for this method) and brew it in your french press. When it’s done, slowly press it, so you get a little bit of faux crema on top.
4. Once your coffee is done, let’s steam the infused milk. This is where you want to add your sugar (I like about a spoonful). Add your steamed and foamed milk to your coffee. You may not use all your milk: save it for another drink! Also: to make that neat swirl, carefully plunge a chopstick in the crema and swirl carefully. Drink fast, just like you would at Brewster’s!
